Our sites are created in WordPress, which is currently the most popular CMS software in the world. More than 40% of sites run on this content management system. And although WordPress is extremely popular, there are still quite a few myths circulating around it. So it’s time to debunk them in this article!
WordPress is a blogging-only tool
This myth largely stems from the history of WordPress. Initially, the software was indeed intended virtually exclusively for bloggers. Moreover, it was just created as a successor to the b2/cafelog blogging system. Over time, however, WordPress developers added many practical features and turned their CMS into a much more versatile tool. Today at Devispace, we use this content management system for projects ranging from simple OnePage sites to more complex projects.
WordPress does not offer page uniqueness
WordPress is famous for its wide selection of ready-made website templates. This is probably what is behind the belief that it is difficult to create a unique site in this CMS. However, our team proves that it is as possible as possible. We simply do not use ready-made templates and build each project completely from scratch. In this way, we provide our clients with unique websites, which are fully tailored to their needs and allow them to stand out from the competition.
WordPress is not suitable for large sites
Another fairly common myth about WordPress is that it won’t work well for sites with many pages or lots of traffic. Nothing could be further from the truth! The software is also perfect for creating complex sites with many features, while ensuring fast loading and smooth operation. High traffic is also not a problem for a site on WordPress, as long as you choose the right hosting and take care of proper optimization. Still have doubts? Perhaps the fact that sites from giants such as Forbes, Harvard University and Sony Music are based on WordPress will help dispel them.
WordPress is not for the e-commerce industry
Our clients often ask whether it is possible to create an online store on WordPress. It is as possible – for this purpose we use the WooCommerce plugin, which was created just for virtual commerce and is one of the most popular tools of this type in the world. What’s more, if you only need online payment options and don’t want to create a store, then you can simply use the WPForms plugin with payment forms. This is great for, for example, sites for psychologists with an option to pay for an appointment online.
WordPress is not scalable
From our own experience, we know that sites built in WordPress are as scalable as possible. This means that sites based on this CMS can provide optimal performance with, for example, increasing traffic or adding new elements. On top of that, thanks to numerous plugins and integrations, you can enrich your site with more features. In case of increased needs, you can add resources to an existing server or add more servers to ensure satisfactory site performance.
WordPress is completely free
This myth has a bit of truth in it. With WordPress, it is indeed possible to build a site completely for free on ready-made templates with no fees and then use only free tools. In the case of WordPress.com, you can even have a free domain, but it will show up with the “wordpress.com” suffix. However, if you want an original domain, unique design or advanced features, then you should expect some expenses, especially if you opt for the services of professional web designers. Also keep in mind the cost of maintaining your site, i.e. hosting, among other things.
WordPress is hard to use
Can operating a site built in WordPress cause difficulties? If you are a complete beginner in the world of the Internet, it is as possible. However, already basic computer skills and a little patience while learning how to operate your own site will allow you to manage it almost 100% on your own. If you order a project from Devispace, you can also count on a special instructional video and professional after-sales support.
WordPress is not secure
Such a belief often comes from the fact that WordPress is open source software. Contrary to appearances, however, open access to the source code does not make it easier to hack sites built on this CMS. What’s more, it’s this feature that makes WordPress sites more secure. The community around this software is really huge, which makes it possible to quickly detect possible bugs, for example, in case of new plugins or after important updates.
